What a Childhood IQ Test Predicted about my Writing The Unprotected Class
Four months post-release, with the daily grind of media promotion having slowed to a much more manageable pace, I’m able to reflect about why I wrote The Unprotected Class. I’ve done countless interviews and a significant number of public events about the book, and the comment I have gotten at least an order of magnitude more than any other, from multiple Congressmen, from fellow scholars and from average readers is “You are so brave” to have written this book.
I’m a bit uncomfortable writing such an obvious brag (I can’t even a disguise it as humblebrag), with my only defense for doing so being that this has, in fact, been my experience.
But the consistency of the feedback made me think— I don’t necessarily consider myself an extraordinarily brave person— and while I’m certainly intellectually bolder than a lot of folks, there are many people out there who are more intellectually fearless than me.
