J.D. Vance Gives the New Right a Chip and a Chair
How Trump's potentially transformative pick may shape the party far beyond 2024.
In the world of professional poker, people sometimes talk about a “a chip and a chair”— a phrase that originates from the 1982 World Series of Poker championship where Jack Straus (pictured in legendary late 1970s/early 1980s poker fashions) came back from having a just single chip left to win the world title.
The idea behind “a chip and a chair” is that, as long as you’ve got a seat at the table and even the smallest amount of money to put up, you’ve got a chance to win.
